Privacy Policy

Short version

We do not host, store or transmit your downloads through our servers. When you download a video, the file streams directly from YouTube to you. We do not require an account and we do not sell data. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful, with IP anonymization enabled and analytics cookies set only with your consent where required by law.

What we collect

We collect only what an ordinary web host receives automatically, plus optional, consent-based usage analytics:

• Google Analytics — page views, approximate region, device and browser type. Google Analytics is a service provided by Google. We enable IP anonymization (anonymize_ip) so full IP addresses are not recorded. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, no analytics cookies are set until you accept the consent banner shown on your first visit.
• Server logs — IP address, browser string, and the URL requested. These are used to keep the service running and to detect abuse, and are retained for a short period before being automatically deleted.

When you use the downloader, your video URL is processed in memory to fetch its format list and is not logged, stored or shared. Downloaded files never pass through our servers.

What we don't collect

• Your name, email address or contact details (unless you email us directly).
• Your search history or downloads history.
• Personal identifiers, cookies for advertising, or third-party ad trackers. We do not serve ads and do not use advertising cookies.

Cookies

We do not use advertising cookies. Two types of cookies or storage are used on this site:

• Consent preference — when you accept or decline analytics, your choice is stored in your browser so we don't ask again.
• Google Analytics cookies — if you accept analytics, Google may set cookies such as _ga,_gid and _gat. These are used solely to measure site usage and expire between 24 hours and 2 years. We retain Analytics data for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

Declining or blocking cookies does not break the site — it simply disables usage analytics. You can change your consent choice at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.

Third parties

Our only third-party service is Google Analytics, operated by Google Ireland Limited (or Google LLC for visitors outside the EEA). Google processes aggregated usage data on our behalf under a data-processing agreement, and its use of that data is governed by Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. Your choices and opt-out

• You can decline analytics using the consent banner, or by clearing browser storage for this site.
• You can install Google's official browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics across all sites: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
• You can manage your Google ad and personalization settings at adssettings.google.com.

Data retention

Raw server logs are automatically deleted after a short retention period. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then automatically deleted. If you email us, your message is kept only as long as needed to respond.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. under GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data relating to you, to withdraw consent, and to object to processing. Because we hold almost none, requests are quick. Contact us using the details on the contact page.

Children

DirectYtDownloader is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
