Why Is My YouTube Download Not Working? (Fix It in 2 Minutes)

Nine times out of ten, a failed YouTube download is not a broken tool — it is the video. Here is how to tell the difference and fix it fast.

Reason 1 — The video is private

Private videos can only be watched by people the creator invited. No downloader can help with those. If you can watch a video in a logged-out browser tab, it is downloadable; if not, it is private.

Fix: you can’t. Ask the creator for permission or access.

Reason 2 — The video is age-restricted

Age-restricted videos require a signed-in, age-verified account. Downloaders skip these for good reason.

Fix: you can’t download these with an online tool. Move on to another video.

Reason 3 — It is a live stream

Live streams do not exist as downloadable files until they end (or are re-broadcast as videos). You literally cannot download something that is still streaming.

Fix: wait for the stream to end, then try again.

Reason 4 — Wrong link

• Pasting a playlist link instead of a video link
• Copying a channel URL
• Truncating the link and losing part of the ID

1. Can you watch it logged-out? No → private or restricted.
2. Is it live? Yes → wait until it ends.
3. Is it a video link, not a playlist? No → fix the link.
4. Still failing? Try a different, popular, public video to rule out your connection.

In practice, that last step — testing with a known-good video — is the fastest way to know whether the problem is the tool (it isn’t) or the video (it is).
